Reducing Our Community’s Carbon Footprint
Mondays: February 5 – April 23, 2018

Thank you to the 320 households who gave up meat one day a week during this community-wide campaign to help us achieve our Climate Action goals.

For 12 weeks we embarked on a community-wide effort to remove meat, chicken and fish from our plates and replaced them with nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables and whole grains. These lower-carbon foods create less greenhouse gas emissions and your participation helps us achieve our Climate Action goals.

We reduced our collective carbon footprint by 22,894.08 kg CO2 eq!  This is equivalent to

  • Driving 56,113 less miles,
  • Using no electricity in 3.4 homes for 1 year, OR
  • Recycling 8 tons of waste instead of sending it to a landfill

Great job, everyone!

Together, we reduced our carbon footprint and conserved resources!

  • A plant-based diet has a smaller carbon footprint than a meat-based diet.
  • An estimated 1,800 to 2,500 gallons of water go into a single pound of beef.
  • About 40 calories of fossil fuel energy go into every calorie of feed lot beef in the U.S.
